Know your skin

The 5 Skin Types Explained

Understanding your skin type is the foundation of every effective skincare routine. Here's what each type means and how to spot it.

💧

Dry Skin

Feels tight after cleansing. Prone to flakiness, fine lines, and dullness. Needs rich hydration and barrier repair.

Oily Skin

Appears shiny, especially by midday. Large pores, prone to breakouts. Needs balance — not stripping.

⚖️

Combination Skin

Oily T-zone with normal or dry cheeks. The most common type. Needs zone-specific treatment.

🌿

Normal Skin

Balanced, comfortable, minimal concerns. The goal is maintenance and prevention rather than correction.

🌸

Sensitive Skin

Reacts easily to new products. Prone to redness, stinging. Needs fragrance-free, minimal formulations.

Questions

Skin Type FAQ

Can your skin type change over time?

Yes — skin type is not fixed for life. Hormonal changes (pregnancy, menopause, puberty), climate, diet, medications, and age can all shift your skin type. Retaking this quiz every 6-12 months or after a significant life change is recommended.

What's the difference between skin type and skin condition?

Skin type (dry, oily, combination, normal, sensitive) is largely genetic and describes your skin's default behaviour. Skin conditions (dehydration, acne, hyperpigmentation, rosacea) are things that happen to your skin based on external factors and can be temporary or treated.

I get different results on different quizzes. Which is right?

This is common because many quizzes ask about appearance rather than behaviour. Our quiz focuses on how your skin acts throughout the day — after cleansing, by midday, in the morning — which is more reliable than a snapshot assessment.

Can I have both dry and oily skin at the same time?

Yes — this is combination skin. It's actually the most common skin type. Your T-zone (forehead, nose, chin) is oily while your cheeks and outer face are normal to dry. Your routine should treat these zones differently.

Does sensitive skin mean I'm allergic to skincare products?

Not necessarily. Sensitive skin means your barrier is more reactive than average, but this doesn't always mean you have allergies. Common triggers include synthetic fragrance, alcohol, strong acids, and essential oils. A patch test before every new product is essential for sensitive skin types.

What should I do after I get my skin type result?

Use your result to audit your current routine — are your products matched to your skin type? Then check our digital guides for a complete skin-type specific routine, or use our free ingredient checker to assess the products you already own.
